Baseball – Fall SEASON

6th in the OUA 2016 season with 7 Wins and 10 Losses, the U of T Baseball team is heading into the 2017 season with new Head Coach Mike Didier.

As a player, Didier helped the Blues to four consecutive Ontario East Division titles (1997-00), while also earning the Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association (CIBA) silver medal in both 1999 and 2000, as well as bronze medals in 1997 and 1998.  He was inducted into the U of T Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. Basketball – WINTER SEASON

With a Home Game winning streak of 7, the Basketball team had their first pre-season away game on August 13th 2017 against Ryerson University. Discover the team’s selection criteria  and statistics on the Varsity Blues home page.

Head Coach, John Campbell, is heading into his 5th consecutive season of coaching for the Varsity Blues, and has been working as a Canadian University basketball coach since 1994.

Cross Country – FALL SEASON

Head Coach Ross Risstuccia is heading into his 18th season as the Cross Country coach for the Varsity Blues and doubles as a coach for the Blues Track and Field team for the long distance events.

Figure Skating – WINTER SEASON

8th in the League, the football team has the largest roster and offers an intensive Training Camp to kick off each season. Discover the team’s statistics, selection criteria, and standings.

Head Coach Greg Gary is heading into his 8th season as the Blues Football coach. As an athlete, Greg received a scholarship to California State University, Fullerton, where he was the captain of the football team and won an Iron Man award in 1981. He signed as a free agent with the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams in 1982 and then headed north a year later, playing four years with the Hamilton Tiger Cats and winning the Grey Cup in 1986.

Golf had a small team of just 8 rostered athletes in the 2016 season and Head Coaches Chris Tortorice and Dave Woods. Explore the selection criteria to become a Blues golfer!

Chris is heading into his 12th season as a Blues coach and first became involved with the Varsity Blues program in 1997 as an athlete.

Head Coach Ryan Medel is heading into his 2nd season as the Head Coach of the Varsity Blues. With 28 men rostered in the 2017 season, the team stood 10th in the West Division of USport.

Lacrosse – FALL SEASON

In the 2016 regular season, the team was composed of 24 athletes, Head Coach Joe Nizich, Associate Head Coach Nick Bradley, Defensive Coordinator Gabe Lisus-Lean and 3 team therapists. Mountain Biking – FALL SEASON

The team ended their 2016 season ranked 2nd in the Ontario Universities Cup Rankings.

Head Coach, David Wright, is the lead founder of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues mountain bike team and Varsity mountain biking in Ontario. Furthermore, Wright has coached student-athletes who have gone on to represent U of T, Ontario and Canada at the provincial, national, international and Olympic levels.

The 2017 Nordic Ski Team was composed of six athletes, Assistant Coach Eric Mathison, and Head Coach Liam Fox.

Head Coach, Iain Wilson, is heading into his third season of coaching for the Blues. Wilson is a NCCP certified coach and has participated in numerous rowing coaching conferences over the past eight years.

The team  was ranked 10th in the 2016/2017 season. Head Coach, Jim Delaney, is heading into his 4th season as a Rugby Varsity Blues coach.

The team of 24 athletes, two assistant coaches, a mental training consultant, a strength and conditioning coach, three staff therapists and a Head Coach, ended the 2016 season with a 2nd place ranking in the OUA standings.

Head Coach, Anthony Capotosto, is heading into his 11th season coaching for the Varsity Blues Soccer team.  Capotosto is a four-time Blues team captain and two-time first team all-Canadian and played defence with the Blues for five seasons.

Squash – WInter season

Head Coach John Lennard has been coaching with the Varsity Blues for 7 seasons. He played as a member of the Canadian Squash Team, and is a recognized Canadian artist and professional musician. His 2017 team of 12 men’s squash players are working hard for a strong results in the OUA Championships this upcoming season.

Head Coach, Byron MacDonald, is heading into his 39th season coaching with the Blues. MacDonald has coached over 200 swimmers to all-Canadian status and over 70 swimmers to international teams. He has guided his teams to 56 conference championships (30 men and 26 women) and 24 national championship titles (15 women and nine men). Furthermore, he has coached Team Canada to a very successful FISU and Pan Pacific.

Head Coach, Nabil Tadros, is heading into his 22nd season as a Varsity Blues Tennis coach having lead his team to 15 OUA titles since 1984. A level three coach in both tennis and basketball, Tadros has been recognized for his contribution to athletics as a recipient of a University of Toronto Arbor Award and the 2000 Toronto Raptors/Ontario Basketball Association Coaches Recognition Award.

Track and Field – Winter Season

Carl Georgevski has served as the Head Coach of the Varsity Blues Track and Field Team for 22 years. A three-time Olympic jumps coach, Carl represented Canada at the Seoul, Barcelona and Sydney games. He was also named Team Canada’s head coach for the World University Games in 1989, 1993 and 1999, as well as the jumps coach at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland and the 1991 world championships in Tokyo.

Volleyball – WINTER season

Ranked 4th in the OUA East division, the Men’s Volleyball team has 18 athletes, five coaches, and four team therapists. Head Coach, John Barrett, has been with the Blues for six seasons. John competed at the 1984 Olympic Games and the 1983 Pan Am Games and at the 1990 world championships.

The wrestling team is possibly the smallest Blues team of four athletes, and Head Coach Michael Quinsey.  Michael has been Head Coach for the Blues for 12 seasons and has been around the sport for 30 years.
